Importance of critical thinking

Recognizing predispositions of those involved is a challenging task at times. But so is the ability to be flexible and consider non-traditional alternatives and perspectives. Nurses can also engage their critical thinking skills through the Socratic method of dialogue and reflection. People can and will manipulate you. Some skill in applying those methods. What matters is that you recognize these lapses and try to avoid them in the future. At least, they will if you take everything at face value and allow others to think for you.

Critical thinking requires a clear, often uncomfortable, assessment of your personal strengths, weaknesses and preferences and their possible impact on decisions you may make.
